Men Fashion: 7 Tips On Wearing Color
Winter and fall are over and now it’s time to get those colours out of the closet. Today I am writing about Men Fashion: 7 Tips On Wearing Color. Color on men has a thin line between fine fashion and just looking like a clown. most men fear color since they have no idea how to wear it. Color coordination is tricky especially for men and some women (yes, that neighbour of yours, you know who I am talking about). Now let’s give you men out there that are reading this post a few or better said 7 tips on how to wear color since most men like to dress in simple colors like, shades of blue, black, brown, gray..etc. So keep on ready for the 7 tips on how to wear color.
1. Accessorize
Colored accessories are the perfect way to add color to your outfit but without overdoing it. For example, a colourful belt, sneaker, a tie or a colour bag for the gym is a very cheap and simple way to get color in your outfit without over doing it. One more tip when it comes to belts is that it’s recommended to match you belt and shoe color. My personal opinion is that cotton pants and colored D-ring belts are the best combo. If you want you can pair up lighter mixed shades of leather belts with your jeans instead of a dark brown or black belt. You can also try to have a colourful
2. One bold piece
Do not over due it. One bold piece of color is all you need. Keep it simple is always the number one rule you have to remember with it comes to color. For example, you can wear jeans and a bright blue or green shirt or for example, a colourful blazer with simple dark jeans or trousers. Always remember that when wearing one items that will pop with colour, make sure to wear neutral colours for the rest of your look.
3. Hues for your skin tone
When choosing a colour make sure that the colours hues compliments you skin tone. People of darker skin tones, such as African Americans, can get away with much brighter and richer colours unlike Caucasians. If you have a very pale skin tone (Irish, English, Swedish…etc) make sure to choose a lighter ro more medium hues of any colour shade you like.
4. Color blocking
Color blocking can be quite hard even for women yet alone for men. Color blocking involves combing blocks of color with other colours. To be honest, this is not intended for all men and honestly not all men can pull off this look. So will look fabulous in this look while others will look horrid. Here are a few tips on how to colour block your look in the right way.
- Block no more than four colour in a single outfit. Pairing clashing colours is alright.
- Primary and secondary colours are always better than pastel colours.
- Accessories with (for example) coloured leather goods.
- Try layering your look with a thin see-through summer sweater.
5. Layering
If you are a simple dude and just want a pinch of colour then a dark blazer and a coloured shirt, polo shirt or t-shirt will do the trick. In this way you will welcome colour into your look but without overdoing it. If you like colour and are ready for it, then op for coloured pants with complimenting neutral colours on the top part of your body. This is a look that is for the more bold men and that know that colour suits their skin tone.
6. Same Colours
When I tell men to wear two colours, I just see a cringe appear on their faces, but this is where men get it wrong. When wearing two colour the best and safest bet to do is to stay in the family. Keep the colours in the colour family. For example, a dark navy blue blazer, washed out jeans and a t-shirt with a print in any colour that compliments the blue colour family. So we are making the colour blend in together without being to loud.
7. Patterns & Prints
Patterns and prints are my personal favorite on how to bring colour into your everyday look. Most men, unaware of this, will wear various t-shirt or shirts with different coloured patterns and prints and combine it with neutral colours for the rest fo the outfit and that is an excellent match. One thing to be careful about are patterns and/or print pants. They are the hardest to pull off and they do require very simple opposite on the upper part of the body to avoid looking like a carpet and vice versa. Keep it simple, keep it one item at a time, unless you love loud fashion.
