A Beginners Guide to Contouring
You might have seen my video tutorial about contouring for all face shapes. I thought I would also write another article about some new contouring products which I know are amazing. I’m talking about Makeup Geek contouring powders. What is the difference between contouring powders and creams? When you use creams, you have to know how to blend well and you can use a darker shade without getting super harsh edges. When using powders you should use the recommended two shades darker since you can get harsh edges. If you are looking for everyday contouring, light contouring, then you will use powders. Creams are more for heavier contouring and photography.
How to Pick the Right Contouring Shade:
When it comes to contouring with powders, it’s important to choose the right shade. Just like foundation, one shades does not fit all so carefully choose your shade. Makeup Geek contouring powders, Marlena, made it quite easy and simple to choose a shade so you do not have to wonder. As you can see in the examples above, choose the contour shade based on your skin tone. Marlene made special contouring shades for each skin tone (with examples to make it even easier). What about undertones? Choose your undertone too. If you have warm undertones, use warm shades. If you have cool undertones, use cool shades.
Makeup Geek launched these beautiful, non-orange, contouring powders in 8 shades. The shades were designed to suit all skin types. The contour powders are soft, buttery and easy to blend out to help you achieve a flawless look!
What Type of Brush to Use for Contouring:
If you would like to get a soft and natural contour, I would recommend you get an one of the following brushes Sigma Beauty F05, Sigma Beauty F23, Sigma Beauty F40, Sigma Beauty F57, Sigma Beauty F77. These brushes are all made for contouring and choosing either will get your a flawless look.
How to Apply Contour:
I’ve already made a few videos concerning contouring with creams, I plan to make an updated video concerning contour powders and how to apply them on all face shapes. Until then, here is a step by step written tutorial.
- Sweep the contour powder from the top corner of the ear directly under the cheek bone. TIP: purse your lips to find your contour area.
- With a clean Sigma Beauty F15, blend or diffuse any harsh lines.
- You are done
You can buy the Makeup Geek contour powders as a set fro $65 dollar or individual makeup geek contour shades for $10.
