I tried No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation when I was in London last year. I was a bit smart and took a few samples home. Let me first tell you a bit about the foundation then I will tell you my thoughts and the experience I went through with the foundation and color choosing in the end. No7 claims that this foundation offers:
- Matte finish
- Medium/Full Cover
- Best for Oily Skin
- Resists shine for up to 12 hours
- Soft and even finish
- SPF 15
- Normal – oily skin
No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation
No7 claims that their Beautifully Matte Foundation formula has been tested to provide a shine free look for up to 12 hours. It also minimizes the appearance of pores, to achieve a more flawless complexion. They claim that the foundation will not leave an ashy finish, which is commonly associated with matte foundations. The formula will not block pores and contains a high level of pigment so that the coverage is truly opaque with a silky matte finish. The formula contains salicylic acid to unblock pores and improve skin throughout wear. It also contains ethanol to leave your skin feeling cool and refreshed. In the end it has SPF 15 to protect your skin from damaging sun rays.
No7 Foundation Match Made Device
No7 has a device which is called the Foundation Match Made Device, which measures an individual’s skin color and matches it to No7 foundation shades to help you find your perfect shade. This device can be found in 668 stores. While I was visiting in London, I went to a few Boots on Oxford Street and wanted to be tested with the foundation match made device. I didn’t go and buy the first shade it recommended, 40 Cool Vanilla, but rather I went to re-test it in other shops since that day I was walking all around London and my skin was irritated from the cold. I went to a total of three Boots which has the foundation match made device and all three times it recommended three different shades. This was really frustrating for me since I really wanted to test the foundation. Luckily I got a few samples and was able to test it out. The best thing about this device is that if you can find your match, they automatically also recommend which lipstick shade would go good with your skintone.
Basically me testing #bootsno7 matte #foundation, impossible to find my shade even with the match made machine. Everytime I get matched, I get a new shade, why? Because I’m neutral olive. I would need 2 if not 3 foundations to get my shade… Driving me crazy… Here are all the shades but 2 of the darkest.. Sooo pink, too bad you can’t see it so well, but from 4 light shades only 1 is yellow. Then all medium shades are pink and the first dark shade, honey is olive.. What am I to do?? #makeup #makeupproblems #mua #makeupartist #boots #No7 #potd I love this foundation to be honest #photooftheday #instamood #instamakeup
No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation makeup review
I decided to test the No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation for my makeup review while I was in London. Why? Well I was walking around all day and as we all know London is humid and I have oily skin. Commonly all my foundation melts off my face and I end up with no foundation left at the end of a 10 – 15-hour walking shift. I took samples of cool vanilla and in the end the foundation was too cool for my skin tone and it oxidized what made it look a be reddish orange on my skin. I came home and was like WTF? I was walking all day around London looking like a weird vegetable. In the end, I took a few more samples and the same thing happened. The only shade which I wasn’t able to get my hands on was 43 calico. I was convinced that I was that shade, it might have been a tad to light but I would have made it work.
No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation summary
The No7 Foundation Match Made Device did not help me at all. It just confirmed that I am always between warm and cool tones, aka neutrals with a bit more yellow. Since my skin is yellow with a touch of pink all the foundation was either to warm or too cool. The light shades were commonly to cool for my skin tone. The reason this made me sad was that I loved this foundation. No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation was probably the best matte foundation which I used since Revlon colorstay. Unlike Revlon colorstay this foundation did not break me out and did not feel heavy on the skin. The foundation does offer full coverage and it can be medium if you want a light coverage. The foundation stayed matte all day even though I was sweating and it was humid, the foundation did not crack or separate. My skin at the end of the day looked amazing. The foundation blends easy, I even applied the foundation with my skin, it has a mousse like texture when applying and because of that it goes on smoothly. This foundation is idea for acne-prone or oily skin and sensitive skin like mine. The only downside which this foundation is that it oxidized on my skin after 40 seconds. It has a strong chemical smell when applying. As you can see the No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation swatches below, all the shades have oxidized on my skin. They all look yellow but to be honest the picture above from my instagram shows you how cool Cool Vanilla is. So the swatches below are just wrong and not true to the first impression I had.
No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation conclusion
To complete this review of No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation, I would like to add that I do recommend this foundation but the lighter shades all lean towards cooler undertones. In the US, you will have only a limited number of shades via Ulta while in the UK via Boots, you will have a wider range of shades. In the end I did not buy the foundation because I couldn’t find my shade. I am going to buy the shade Calico, when I manage to, in hope that it won’t be too orange on my skin when it oxidizes. I’ve read other reviews where people claim it didn’t oxidize on their skin.
