Best drugstore foundation of 2013

Here is my long awaited best drugstore foundation of 2013. You might have read my last year’s post top 6 drugstore foundations of 2012, so make sure to also see what I recommended last year, but also here is an update list which has a bit more foundations added to the list than my last year’s list. This year you will see some products repeat themselves while seeing a few new products on the list since 2013 quite a few new drugstore foundations were launched. I know that the key to good flawless makeup is a good base and when I write base, I mean foundation. Many of use can’t or don’t want to spend our money on high-end makeup brands and even a few of us are just drugstore makeup addicts. So here is my lift of my personal best drugstore foundations for 2013.

 In no particular order here are the foundations, which got on my list.

L’oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder

The L’oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation was considered to be THE dupe for Armani Maestro Foundation and MUFE face and body, a foundation that looks like second skin. This foundation goes from liquid to powder and promises to leave a bare skin finish. It comes in 12 shades and in a 20ml  frosted glass bottle and retails for around $12. The trick to this foundation is to shake the bottle well prior to application.

1. Ease of Application

The formula of the foundation is very light and runny, very water like and can be applied with fingers since has a thin texture. Since the formula is thin it doesn’t streak when applied. The finish of the foundation is first dewy and then a few minutes later it sets to a more satin demi-matte powder finish. The foundation does not enhance or cling to dry patches, even on dry skin.  It’s ideal for skin that doesn’t have acne or any other major skin conditions. Also no scent is present in the foundation.

2. Coverage Power

The coverage power is sheer to light so this is ideal for people with minimum flawless that just want to even out the skin. Covers some light redness. The foundation gives a second skin finish.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

Yes, this is a very good everyday foundation since it’s light texture and gives a natural finish.

4. Longevity (wear time)

The longevity or better-said the wear time of this foundation is something similar to the YSL le teint touché éclat.

To keep in mind

oily skin – This might not be the best foundation for oily skin, but if you use a good primer it will last longer

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

As Long as they make revlon colorstay foundation it will be on my list forever. This is one of the best drugstore foundations for people with more complex skin, such as acne and oily skin. One thing that sadly changed this year is that the foundations upped the SPF. I am not happy because of this because I like foundation with no or minimum foundation since I use face creams with high SPF (30+) and then my foundation and face creams don’t mix well.  The oily – combination skin formula went up to SPF 15, while the normal to dry formula went up to SPF 20. This foundation can be compared to MAC foundations.

1. Ease of Application

The foundation has a very silk and light texture but it does dry fast what means that you should apply this foundation on fast. It’s one of those rare drugstore foundations, which last, very long on oily skin, even without a primer.

2. Coverage Power

The coverage power is amazing! It covers most of my acne and acne scars and even redness without a concealer.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

Yes, this is a very good everyday full coverage foundation, but like with most heavy foundation I do not recommend that you use it more than 3 days at a time. Give your skin a 4 day break from heavy foundation.

4. Longevity (wear time)

The longevity or better-said the wear time is amazing. All day long for all skin types even oily skin.

To keep in mind

oily skin – Perfect for oily skin and it controls oily amazing!

recommended for all skin types  that want a true 24 hour full coverage foundation

SPF – the SPF went up from 6 – 15 and from 15 – 20

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

Last year I mentioned a mousse foundation and decided to mention a new one this year. Not that the one from last year is not good anymore but this one showed better results this year. The Maybelline dream matte mousse foundation comes in 12 beautiful shades and is claimed to be a revolutionary air-soft mousse foundation which offers perfect coverage and a velvet-matte finish. The foundation is fragrance-free, dermatologist-tested, allergy-tested and won’t clog pores.

1. Ease of Application

Smooth like actual mousse, make you want to eat it with a spoon, glides on with ease and offers a matte finish. The foundation is water-based and non-comedogenic that works wonders for oily skin. Offers a matte powder like finish.

2. Coverage Power

For best applicatio use your fingers and blend in the foundation. It covers most flawless and offer a true medium coverage, which is buildable to a point.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

yes, this is a very good everyday foundation even for oily skin since it dries to a powder like matte finish.

4. Longevity (wear time)

The longevity is all day long.

To keep in mind

oily skin – good for oily skin and normal skin. I do recommend a primer for oily skin in order for the foundation to last longer.

recommended for all skin but scoop out the foundation with a spatula to avoid contamination.

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation

Covergirl‘s newer foundation outlast stay fabulous foundation has been raved about online. Covergirl claims that this is an all-in-one foundation with a long lasting formula which offers a primer, concealer and foundation in one step. This foundation last all day long and is compared to Revlon Colorstay and MAC foundations.

1. Ease of Application 

The foundation glides on like smooth and just like Revlon colorstay it dries fast. The foundation is comparable to Revlon but it last even longer than colorstay or even dream matte.  Unlike colorstay or dream matte it comes with a pump what is very hygienic.

2. Coverage Power

The coverage is medium to full and very similar to colorstay, but I think that colorstay offers a bit more coverage from one layer when it comes to flaws.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

yes, just like Revlon colorstay I recommend wearing no longer than 3 days after which you should take a 4 day break from this foundation.

4. Longevity (wear time)

The longevity is all day long, longer than colorstay or dram matte.

To keep in mind

oily skin – the foundation will not oxides.

recommended for all skin types.

PHYSICIANS FORMULA YOUTHFUL WEAR SPOTLESS FOUNDATION

Physicians formula claims that the youthful wear spotless foundation is a totally new innovation which offers a weightless foundation serum like texture that offers spotless coverage and a second skin finish. You will look 10 years younger while it treats and reduced 67% of spots on the face. The foundation contains SPF 15 and comes in only three shades (say what in the 21 century?) This is a water-based foundation and is comparable to Chanel Vitalmiere Aqua ultra light skin perfecting makeup; Estee Lauder invisible fluid makeup and Shiseido perfect refining foundation.

1. Ease of Application

This consistency of the foundation is water like, runny so this is why it comes with it’s own brush that has soft bristles and is shed-free. Do not apply the foundation on the brush directly, but rather apply it on your hand and pick it up then apply it on to your face and buff away. The foundation dry to a semi-matte finish and it doesn’t cling to dry patches.

2. Coverage Power

The coverage is sheer to light but it will not cover acne and any major scaring. This is more for skin with minimum flaws.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

Yes, I love ths foundation for everyday wear. .

4. Longevity (wear time)

The longevity is similar to L’oreal Magic nude liquid powder.

To keep in mind

oily skin – you might skin this since it’s will glide off your face it you don not use a primer.

REVLON AGE DEFYING FIRMING + LIFTING foundation

Revlon claims that the age defying firming + lifting foundation has an advanced anti-aging formula that firms, lifts, hydrates and covers skin to get a perfect coverage. The foundation contains SPF15.

1. Ease of Application

Even though the texture of the foundation is semi-thick the foundation feel like on the sin and it blends with ease. The finish of the foundation is semi-matte and gives a youthful glow to aging skin. The foundation also offers a light firming effect.

This consistency of the foundation is water like, runny so this is why it comes with it’s own brush that has soft bristles and is shed-free. Do not apply the foundation on the brush directly, but rather apply it on your hand and pick it up then apply it on to your face and buff away. The foundation dry to a semi-matte finish and it doesn’t cling to dry patches.

2. Coverage Power

The coverage is buildable and can very between light to medium.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

Yes, this foundation is for everyday wear and is excellent for dry aging skin.

4. Longevity (wear time)

The wear time is quite good and it’s last around 6 hours.

To keep in mind

oily skin – not really for you, but this is rather for dry skin

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Rimmel claims that the Match perfection foundation is claimed to be so perfect that it’s undetectable in any light. It offers very light second skin like finish and offers traceless coverage and flawless skin with SPF 15, which they claim lasts all day long. This foundation is considered to be a good dupe for MUFE HD foundation.

1. Ease of Application

The foundation is easy to apply and is that typical liquid texture, nothing to thick or to thing. It offers a semi-matte finish similar to MUFE HD foundation.

2. Coverage Power

The coverage is medium but it’s buildable and it does cover light imperfections.

3. Is the Foundation for everyday?

Yes, it looks flawless on and truly like second skin. Comparable to high-end brands

4. Longevity (wear time)

It last around 6 hours and no need for touch ups.

To keep in mind

oily skin – not really for you, but this is rather for dry skin. I do recommend a primer for oily skin
